THIS IS SO GOOFY IM EMBARRASSED Y’ALL
Anyways ummmm yeah… I decided to try the Wedding Invitation assignment. I’m embarrassed that I actually made this, but enjoy.
Ok so by now we all know that I have an obsession with The Vampire Diaries. My friend sent me a card for my birthday with a little drawing of me and Damon Salvatore, who’s a main character on the show, and that’s what prompted me to make this. We joke about marrying him all the time because he’s just so great. Team Damon ALWAYS!!!! Anyways, I decided it would be fun to make a wedding invitation that had a vampire theme. I chose the date because I think a wedding in May would be pretty, and the year is 1865 because that’s the year after Damon becomes a vampire. Going back in time would be fun, right? I chose a very simple layout because I’m not really one for extravagant designs and matched the color scheme to the photo of me. My friend and I did a Twilight movie night last year and dressed up like vampires and took pictures, that’s why that red picture exists LOL. I also tried to match the colors and theme of the invitation to the logo for the show.
I also used the logo for font inspiration. I think the font I used for the “save the date” is pretty self-explanatory, but the font for the rest of the words was meant to be reminiscent of the show. I used a red shadowing effect to make the words at the top look more like blood and black shadowing behind the actual date to make it more eyecatching. I was trying to be very intentional with my decisions about color, placement, font, word choice, and the image when I was working on this invitation. The more I look at this invitation, the more I don’t like it, but I’ve never done anything like this before so I guess it will take some practice.
I ended up using Canva to make this because that’s what the assignment had in its instructions, but I’ve never used it before so it took me a little while to get my bearings. I looked through some of the options on the site and chose a template to start playing around with. It was a lot of trial and error, but I eventually sort of got the hang of moving different aspects around and changing/adding effects to the words. After I got the design that I wanted, I used Snapchat to make the image by cutting my face out of my picture and then using that cutout as a sticker on a picture of Damon that I found online. I saved that picture and emailed it to my laptop so I could upload it to Canva. Then I cropped it and moved it around until I liked where it was situated! I downloaded the invitation from Canva and then embedded it as an image on here.
I’m looking to exploring more design techniques as the week goes on! I hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine 🙂
